Choose for your audience
A .it signals a connection with Italy. A .com is a familiar choice for projects that do not want to express a single national market. Ask who must remember the name, what language the site uses and how the address will appear offline.
If the name is long or ambiguous, changing the extension will not solve that. Try dictating the address and asking someone to write it down. A clear, consistent name matters more than a generic SEO promise.
If you buy both endings
.it and .com are separate domains with separate orders, expiry dates and renewals. Registering one does not include the other. If you do not need two sites, use one main address and redirect the other through your host.
Check email configuration for each domain. A web redirect does not forward email or create mailboxes. Keep an inventory of connected services before editing DNS or nameservers.
